Before I started this project, I had no idea what a service learning project
was. When I learned about the project I was selfish. I thought about what I could get out the
experience. I quickly learned this project really had little to do with me. It
was hard to accept that reality, but I tried my best to embrace it. As this
project evolved, I begin to grow. I begin to become more open-minded.
Witnessing the struggle other cultures had in learning another language really
influenced my viewpoint. It really helped me mature. The understanding I
acquired of myself and other is remarkable. I truly enjoyed participating in
this project. Service learning projects help a person experience feelings that can’t
be taught from a teacher. I hope everyone gets a chance to experience the
benefits of a service learning project.
